How waiting for pregnancy increased my faith

Waiting and waiting for those two pink lines to appear might seem like a million years. But what comes after that needs a giant leap of faith.

Becoming parents is one of the best blessings. It is like a dream come true. It’s the best moment for a couple when they find out they are going to become parents.

Pregnancy surely is a beautiful phase of life, both for the mother and father alike, but it comes with its own set of difficulties. Some pregnancies unfortunately don’t make it to full term, and some are complicated.

Pregnancy and faith go hand in hand. It’s a chance to boost up your imaan and connect with Allah. I went through a miscarriage to understand this beautiful part of pregnancy.

After I miscarried, I didn’t think I would get pregnant again. I kept blaming myself for doing something wrong. I couldn’t understand that if I was supposed to miscarry then why Allah made me pregnant in the first place. I had too many questions and doubts. I was going through turmoil. Many women go through this. But we must remember Allah is the Most Wise and the Most Knowledgeable.

Allah knows what every female carries and what the wombs lose [prematurely] or exceed. And everything with Him is by due measure.

[He is] Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, the Grand, the Exalted. [Surah Ar-Ra’d, Ayah 8-9]

This ayah brings comfort knowing that whatever happened to me Allah knew and it did not happen except with His permission. It was written, it was decreed. La hawla wala quwata illa billah.

How amazing is it that a life is being created inside you? And how breathtaking is it when you, and only you, as a mother can feel its movements. Subhan Allah!

If Allah wanted, it could happen in a day. Why prolong it for nine months? Isn’t this something to ponder upon?

All these are signs so that we increase in our imaan, reflect on our purpose of this life, and be grateful to Him for the blessings He bestows upon us.

O People, if you should be in doubt about the Resurrection, then [consider that] indeed, We created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot, and then from a lump of flesh, formed and unformed –  that We may show you. And We settle in the wombs whom We will for a specified term, then We bring you out as a child, and then [We develop you] that you may reach your [time of] maturity.

And among you is he who is taken in [early] death, and among you is he who is returned to the most decrepit [old] age so that he knows, after [once having] knowledge, nothing. And you see the earth barren, but when We send down upon it rain, it quivers and swells and grows [something] of every beautiful kind. [Surah Al-Hajj, Ayah 5]

With advancements in medical technology, we now come to know everything about our unborn child: gender, health, and other aspects. We have become more and more dependent on technology to know about the wellbeing of our child than on Allah. I do not say this is wrong, as when we know something is wrong we can treat it beforehand.

What I am trying to say is our faith in Allah and our reliance upon Allah is becoming weaker. We should not become so dependent on doctors, their tests and their reports for our well-being that we forget that it is Allah who is actually taking care of you and your baby.

Connect with Allah first, pray to Him first, talk to Him first of your worries and concerns. Have faith in Allah that He will surely keep your baby healthy.

Indeed, from Allah nothing is hidden in the earth nor in the heaven.

It is He who forms you in the wombs however He wills. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise. [Surah Aal-E-Imran, Ayah 5-6]

I am amazed when I think about the time when technology was not available. What do you think the women of the time of the Prophet  did when they were pregnant? They had no way of knowing if the baby was healthy or not, if it had any genetic disease, or if it was a girl or a boy. But what they had is what we are lacking: Faith and full reliance upon Allah. So I hope those of you who are pregnant, or want to be become pregnant, have a little more faith in Allah.

How pregnancy can help increase your faith

  • Know that it is only Allah who created that life inside you.
  • Allah is the one shaping your child each and every second. And He and only He knows how your child will look like.
  • Keep praying to Allah to make your child righteous and that he or she becomes a sadqah jaariyah for you
  • For every movement you feel of your baby say Alhamdulillah that your baby is well and alive.
  • Give sadaqah on behalf of your baby to keep it away from harm
  • Keep reciting Qur’an and adhkaar as you know the baby listens
  • Always keep good thoughts about Allah.

“Sufficient for me is Allah ; there is no deity except Him. On Him I have relied, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne.”
